Hosted Buyer Pre-Famil: Waikato

Welcome to the Waikato, renowned for its natural beauty, powerful history and out of this world experiences.

From underground subterranean wonders at Waitomo Caves to a slice of the ‘real Middle-earth’ at Hobbiton Movie Set and the bohemian town vibe and left-hand surf break at Raglan on the West Coast.

The Waikato, and it’s metropolitan hub of Hamilton, is situated an easy 90 minute drive from Auckland Airport in the Central North Island.

The region is home of the Māori King and has been a significant area for Māori for hundreds of years, since the great voyaging Tainui waka (canoe) made landfall in the Waikato more than 800 years ago. Along with its Māori heritage, the region is one of the world’s richest agricultural areas and has become a hub for science, technology and high-performance sport, with world class cycling and rowing facilities based here.

Waikato venues and accommodation are as diverse as the landscape, from inner-city chic to sweeping rural outcrops, experience business events with time to breathe.

This famil includes a visit to Claudelands Conference & Exhibition Centre which boasts theatre capacity for up to 6000 delegates, nine breakout spaces, a combined 10,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor exhibition space. We then move to the heart of the Waikato, hidden behind green rolling hills is a place like no other – Hobbiton Movie Set. Created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies, this is a magical place to hold an exclusive dinner or meeting.
